A June treble for the Rogues!!
By Ronnie Booth.
Some horse racing syndicates can only dream of the success that Rogues Gallery Racing has achieved this season especially in the month of June.
June is a special month for British horse racing with the two-day Derby meeting on Epsom Downs in the heart of Surrey quickly followed by the magic of Royal Ascot's five-day meeting in the Royal County of Berkshire.
To have a runner in either of these premier horse racing events is such a privilege but Rogues Gallery Racing were fortunate enough to be represented in the Derby at Epsom and the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.
It all started on a wet and chilly day at Epsom on the 7th of June. More than 100 Rogues attended the Downs on that day having their own red double decker bus fully stocked with delicacies and champagne. What an impact they made on Epsom that day. Commander in Chief Tony Elliot being at the forefront of TV and radio interviews throughout the day.
Speaking of an impact it was the three-year-old bay colt Rogue Impact ridden by Luke Morris and trained by James Owen who carried the hopes and dreams of the Rogues on site that day. He was a big price and ran well finishing 13th of the 18 runners in a race won by the Aiden O' Brien trained Lambourn.
The Rogues Gallery bandwagon moved swiftly to day two of the Royal Ascot meeting with a runner in the Windsor Castle Stakes. The weather was slightly different to Epsom with the umbrellas being used as sun protection rather than rain protection!
Around fifty Rogues adorned the lawns of Royal Ascot all dressed in the fashions of the day with splendid hats for the ladies. A supreme effort by everyone and it was the two-year-old bay colt son of St Marks Basilica, ridden by Danny Tudhope and trained by David O'Meara who carried the red and white colours into battle with some of the fastest two-year-olds around. He ran a great race but was unfortunate to be denied racing room in the later stages of the race finishing a creditable seven lengths behind the winner Havana Hurricane.
Two fantastic and memorable days for Rogues Gallery Racing which will stay with the syndicate members forever. Runners in the Derby and Royal Ascot in the same year is a privilege for any racehorse owners, and we are lucky to have witnessed both this year.
I said it was a June treble and after the luxuries of Epsom Downs and Ascot Heath our three-year-old bay colt Rogue Millions ridden by Rossa Ryan and trained by James Owen headed north to Carlisle for the Cumberland Plate and a prestigious race day. A racing masterclass and jockey performance ensured that Rogue Millions returned with the spoils winning his race by four lengths.
June 2025 will remain with Rogue Gallery Racing members forever. Great horse racing times, great camaraderie, extremes of great British weather and the hopes and dreams of everyone for a repeat next year!
