On very tiring ground at Garthorpe in Leicestershire recently this future chaser won a Goffs-sponsored maiden point-to-point for four- and five-year-olds. Conditions proved too much for a couple of fancied runners who cried enough in the home straight, but this newcomer stuck to his task and overhauled a professionally-trained five-year-old from Tim Vaughan’s yard who had the benefit of experience. It was a tremendous performance by the winner on an undulating course and after a couple of novicey errors that were forgivable given the testing going and his lack of experience. Big by name and nature, this four-year-old can only improve with another summer on his back. He is the first foal of his dam and comes from a family that is not short of graded winners over fences and hurdles.
Looks a future Grand National horse in the making
