What an extraordinary start, I’ve not seen anything like it before.
Thankfully nobody was injured and all stalls handlers/riders and horses are safe. Sean did very well to stay on The Guvnor and our plans of being handy throughout the race were gone from the beginning. Having been fully drawn on debut The Guvnor behaved very well in the prelims and cantered down to post nicely.
I was also really pleased to see him travel well despite the awkward start. It was also good to see him come through some horses on the final bend. I don’t believe he would have beaten the impressive winner but with a conventional start and ridden handily I’d think he would have been second or third.
Ultimately The Guvnor is going to be seen to best effect on the turf over a trip and I feel he is a horse who should stay really well. He ran to the line, he has a really long stride and is a big late maturing type, one who should improve over time. There is a great programme for this type of horse.
